“I was born and raised in Bellevue Washington and still live here. I am married (my wife Sophie is from Malaysia) and we have a 9th grade son, Gabe, and a 6th grade son, Joel. I enjoy all kinds of sports but especially soccer which I now coach. After graduating from Whitworth University in the late 80's, I went to Japan to teaching English (JET Program) in the in countryside near Kobe for a couple of years. This got me interested in teaching and learning Japanese. I taught high school for some years upon returning and started volunteering with ISI in the mid- 1990s in Seattle and then in Bellevue. We have hosted many Japanese students and have developed some special friendships over the years. I look forward to continue to serve the Lord through ISI as a staff member." Paul and Sue Hayzlett heard God’s call to go to China. Their initial commitment with ELIC was for two years. That was nine years ago and they haven’t looked back since. Paul and Sue have an amazing story that they share openly and honestly. The Hayzlett’s recently returned to Arizona after a year of teaching English at Beijing Institute of Technology (BIT). For the six years prior to BIT, the Hayzletts taught at Ludong University in Yantai, Shandong Province. Sue earned her degree in International Business with an emphasis in Asia in 2002. She has been the President and CEO of two companies in Southern California. Prior to going to China, she worked as a Mortgage Loan Officer for one of the largest banks in the US. Paul studied Radio & TV and Business Management at California State University, Long Beach. His background is in 2 7/20/18 Information Technology, Telecommunications, and Project Management. Paul was honored to be a regular speaker at a Three-Self Church in Yantai, China. Paul and Sue have three adult children and five grandchildren. After the NSO training, they will move into a house that’s two blocks from Arizona State University. Both are thrilled to be joining the ISI family. Campus Staff – Silverdale, WA
Beth - “I grew up in Gig Harbor, WA. I accepted Christ at age 16 at a Young Life Camp, which truly changed the course of my life! After serving three years in the USAF Nurse Corps, I began working in Labor and Delivery at the Navy Hospital in Bremerton, WA. It was through the singles group at our church that I met and married my husband, TK (who says he ‘ran very fast to catch me’). I actually ‘slowed down’ so he could! We have two children: Sarah is 22, graduated from University of Washington, and is currently serving as a missionary in China. Our son, Jarred, is 21 and in his final year at Washington State University. Three years ago, TK and I launched English Corner Fellowship, a ministry to International students at our local community college. We are both excited to be a part of ISI, to reach all Nations for Christ! TK - “I am Chinese and was born in Vietnam. I escaped from Vietnamese Communists and came to America in 1980. I studied English as my third language, obtained an adult High School diploma, and graduated from the University of Utah with a BS degree in Physics in 1985 (later I received my Masters in Engineering). I grew up believing in Chinese Buddhism, later I became an atheist in my college years. Finally, I accepted Jesus as my Lord and Savior in 1987.” Campus Staff – San Tan Valley, AZ

“I was born and grew up in Taiwan and came to the US as an international student for graduate school. I have an international family with siblings who live in Japan, China, and Taiwan. I am married to Yu Kuang Chang and homeschool my four daughters: Elizabeth Chang (18), Ivana Chang (15), Anisa Chang (11) and Priscilla Chang (8). The reason I am passionate about international student ministry is because when I studied in Iowa, there were two church families who reached out to me, loved me, and helped me. This had a big impact in my life, so I want to pass on Christ's love to help more international students.” Campus Staff - Bozeman, MT
“I was born in Los Angeles, California in December of 1959. I played football for Boise State University and graduated in 1983. I was the first of my family to come to Christ through the ministry of CRU. I joined the staff of CRU for a short time but left to seek a Masters in Biblical Studies and Ministry. After graduation, I became a Youth Pastor at the E-Free Church of Bozeman. Ten years later, I took a one-year sabbatical and lived in the Philippines. I am now leaving that same church after 30 years to join the staff of ISI.” |
